How We Started

Wes loves working on cars; he always has. But he hates working on his own cars. So he came up with the idea to buy a cheap car that needed mechanical work.

A few days later, he found the perfect match online – a Subaru Legacy with a busted transmission. He and Anna-Lisa rented a trailer and bought the car from a family in Fredericksburg. When they met the family, they were surprised to hear that the Subaru was this family’s only form of transportation. They were heartbroken that it had broken down but they couldn’t afford to take it to a mechanic, so they decided to cut their losses and sell it.

Wes and Anna-Lisa couldn’t get this family off of their minds. But they already had another family lined up to take the Subaru once it was drivable. So they moved forward with the original plan and spent the next month fixing the car.

In a crazy turn of events, things fell through with the receiving family… so now the Subaru was fixed, with no one to take it. Wes immediately contacted the original family and offered to give the car back to them. Turns out, the mom had been borrowing friends’ cars to get to work, so she was ecstatic to be getting her car back, and in much better condition than she could have imagined!

Wes was telling the story to a friend over lunch the next week when his friend suggested creating a nonprofit so that this experience of blessing a family could continue, hopefully many more times. A couple of weeks later, that little suggestion became reality as Revive the Drive was created and incorporated. This is just the beginning…. and we’re incredibly excited to see where this journey leads!

Meet our directors and co-founders

Hey I’m Wes!
I’ve been working on cars since I was 15 (over 20 years!) and it has been a steady constant in my life. Troubleshooting and solving car problems eventually led me into my career in cybersecurity and systems engineering for power plants. In my free time, I still love getting under a car. However, I’ve added a couple hobbies over the years. Rock climbing (with Anna-Lisa whenever possible!) and snowboarding put a smile on my face.

Hi I’m Anna-Lisa!
I know nothing about cars, but I love pretty much anything that involves being with people and spearheading projects.  I’m passionate about making people feel loved and included, and I’m a networker by nature.  I work full time at a travel agency and have traveled to 49 states and 34 countries.  In my free time you can find me rock climbing, inviting people over for game nights, and taking aerial silks and aerial hoop classes.
